Last Friday our Year 7 students participated in Clean Up Australia Day at Morisset. About 30 HCLM students and staff members helped to remove litter from the nature reserve and lakeside and the surrounding streets as part of the nation-wide event. 33 large bags of general waste and recycling were filled and removed from the environment. The publication the  "Lakes Mail" featured our school in the newspaper and have written an article that can be viewed below.

WELCOME BACK TO 2018

SCHOOL'S BACK // We hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer break and are recharged and ready to start a new school year. This year we are delighted to welcome some new students and families to be part of our amazing HCLM community. We look forward to working with you and your children.

HCLM ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

The weather was perfect for athletics today. It was such a sunny Autumn day that there was nowhere better to be than Wangi Wangi Oval watching the students compete in the Athletics Day. Thank you to all the parents and friends who attended, particularly those who assisted with the lunch and the field events. Thank you to Mr Hindmarsh who organised the day and all the staff who assisted. The final results and the winning students will be announced next week.

BIG HEART PROJECT

Today all our students had a great time putting together our design for the Love Your Sister Big Heart Project. The money which came to approximately 300m worth of 5 cent pieces will be banked tomorrow at the Bendigo Bank to contribute to Connie Johnson's world record breaking attempt in Canberra on May 10th. All proceeds go to the Garvan Institute of Medical Research for Cancer Research. We also had photos taken by The Lakes Mail so look out for a newspaper article in the next edition!

HRIS CROSS COUNTRY

Congratulations to all our students who took part in the Hunter Region Independent Schools Cross Country Run last week. We are proud of all of you!

WELCOME BACK TO TERM 2

Welcome Back to Term 2! It’s exciting to see all the students back at school and engrossed in their learning again. Many students had stories to tell about their holiday adventures. Term 2 is already shaping up to be a busy term with lots of great things planned.

Kindergarten Craft

This week our Kindergarten students enjoyed their shared storybook "My Nest is Best" and completed activities on their focus sound ‘n’. The clever students made a nest for our class tree and students wrote non-fiction facts about nests. Our writing focus has been information reports and the recall of facts! Sounds like fun.

Seniors and Friends Day

Today our annual Seniors and Friends Day took place! It was fantastic to see so many visitors and to share the day with them. Morning tea and lunch were provided. A concert took place at 11:30am and students entertained the visitors with a range of items. Thanks to everyone who was involved with the music and the food preparation today. And thank you to everyone who braved the weather and came to our special day.

HCLM Swimming Carnival

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the HCLM Swimming Carnival today. The competiton was fierce and many students secured themselves a place in the HRIS Team. The students loved the four new HCLM Sport Teams - Hunter, Williams, Paterson and Macquarie and it was great to see students wearing colourful team colours and being involved in team cheering. Congratulations to Paterson House who won the Championship Shield for 2017! Thanks to the parents volunteers and P&F who organised the BBQ for lunch.

First Day of School

We would like to welcome all students and families to Heritage College for 2017. The school year has begun. It is great to see everyone returning to school refreshed after a summer break. We would like to welcome all our new students, parents and teachers to our school community. We look forward to sharing the year together here at HCLM. We ask God’s blessing on our school as we continue to “Work Together for Good”.

Primary Swimming

The primary swimming program was held during November and December. The primary students have been graded and are receiving swimming lessons appropriate for their age and stage. It has been a fantastic experience and has been beautiful weather for this outdoor activity. We also encourage parents to enroll their children into after-school swimming lessons. Swimming is a crucial skill for all children.

Wizard of Oz!

Thank you to those who came to see the Heritage College production of the Wizard of OZ!

Students from Heritage College Lake Macquarie had a fantastic time staging the musical “The Wizard of Oz” at the Warners Bay Performing Arts Centre. Nearly every student at Heritage College was involved in the three public performances in some capacity. Students were either acting, singing, dancing or assisting with props back stage or selling programs front of house. All the teachers were thrilled with how the students extended the boundaries of what everyone thought was possible. Many who attended the show commented that the standard was almost that of a professional show.

The live orchestra of 25 musicians really lifted the roof off with the exciting songs and musical themes. Some of the songs are really well known, including the iconic “Over the Rainbow” and “We’re off the see the Wizard”.
